Holloway Road

Holloway Road Playground, Wellington has been thoughtfully refreshed, transforming a tired and underused space into a safe and welcoming place for play.

Working alongside Wellington City Council and the local community, the project focused on lifting the site entirely. The goal was to create a space that feels inviting, functional, and well suited to everyday use, while remaining in keeping with the surrounding environment.

The site presented a number of logistical challenges, including limited access, constrained working space, and the need for careful coordination of deliveries and traffic management to safely service the area. Despite this, the project was delivered with minimal disruption to the surrounding neighbourhood.

Careful consideration was given to both design and materials. Natural tones and a simple, well-planned layout allow the playground to sit comfortably within the landscape, creating a space that feels cohesive rather than imposed. The inclusion of new surfacing from Matta Products has significantly improved safety and accessibility, ensuring the playground can be enjoyed by a wider range of users.

Despite the compact footprint and delivery constraints, the outcome demonstrates how thoughtful design and a collaborative approach can deliver meaningful improvements. The renewed playground now provides a space where families can gather, children can play with confidence, and the community can reconnect with a revitalised local asset.
