As part of the wider Eastern Busway and Ti Rākau Drive upgrade, this previously under-utilised space has been transformed into a vibrant community destination for play and recreation.
Landscape architects Boffa Miskell led the overall design, creating a welcoming space that connects surrounding neighbourhoods and sits along key walking routes between local schools and the nearby shopping centre. The project was designed to encourage people to stop, play, exercise and connect, while improving the experience for those moving through the area.
Working closely with Boffa throughout the design process to bring the vision to life. This included collaborating on the design of the landmark play tower and developing bespoke play elements, including custom talk tubes that add opportunities for communication, imaginative play and social interaction.
The completed space combines engaging play opportunities with outdoor fitness equipment, creating a destination that caters to a wide range of ages and abilities. Whether children are climbing and exploring or adults are making use of the fitness equipment, the park provides opportunities for the whole community to be active.
The safety surfacing was completed by Playtop, complementing the overall design while providing a durable and accessible play surface. HEB Construction delivered the wider site works as the principal contractor, helping transform the area into an inviting public space as part of the Eastern Busway project.
