A Landmark Destination Playground
Barry Curtis Park is now home to one of Auckland’s most exciting and inclusive destination playgrounds, a bold, large-scale play environment designed to inspire movement, connection and discovery.
Developed in collaboration with local iwi Ngāi Tai Ki Tāmaki and the Howick Local Board, the playground celebrates its wetland setting while delivering high-impact play experiences for tamariki of all ages and abilities. Built for durability and long-term community use, the space balances adventurous challenge with thoughtful inclusivity.
Playground People were proud to contribute to this landmark project, delivering dynamic features that anchor the space. Striking landmark towers create a strong visual identity and invite confident climbers to rise above the park, while inclusive play elements ensure everyone can take part in the experience.
Shaded water play areas add sensory engagement and seasonal fun, while musical sensory instruments introduce sound, creativity and interactive discovery. A dedicated younger children’s play area provides age-appropriate challenge and safe exploration, ensuring the playground caters to families at every stage.
Carefully planned circulation encourages movement and social interaction throughout the space. Every element has been designed to build strength, coordination and confidence, creating a playground that remains energetic, engaging and high-use.
A true destination in East Auckland, this playground brings community, challenge and inclusive play together in one vibrant environment.
