Waitaha Reserve Playground – A Space for Everyone
Waitaha Reserve in Welcome Bay has had a major refresh and is now an inviting space for locals of all ages and abilities. With input from mana whenua Ngāti Hē and Tauranga City Council, the design blends play with cultural storytelling and connection to the land.
Key features include a new basketball court, shaded picnic area, refurbished skate park, and community gardens. The playground itself is fully accessible and packed with fun, including the Kompan Explorer Dome – the first in Aotearoa – along with a Cocowave swing, wheelchair carousel, and plenty of swings and climbing areas.
Designed by TCC landscape architect Vanessa Davies, the space was shaped in close collaboration with the community to make sure it’s inclusive and welcoming. A huge thanks to Akarana Community Trust for their generous support, and to everyone who helped make this happen.
Come check it out, bring the whānau, and enjoy everything Waitaha Reserve has to offer.
